**** Update: Apparently, the boys rode their Ripstiks up to the bus stop this AM and hid them in the bushes for their ride home. Unbelievable. These boys are aging me, for sure!

According to Websters 1928 Dictionary:
ROB'BED, pp. Deprived feloniously and by violence; plundered; seized and carried away by violence.

Not sure if there was any violence involved in taking our boys Rip Stiks (fancy pants modern skate boards) off our porch in the dark of the night, but the boys were definitely deprived of the joy in riding them each day, every day. The police think it was probably city kids coming out to the burbs taking what they can for the thrill and desire of it all.

The whole situation is sad. Sad that kids are being raised without values and principles.

So yet again, I find myself faced with adversity in my situation. Who I am going to honor? Me and my flesh? Yes, that would feel good and did for a moment when I first discovered the missing Rip Stiks. But I know better. I'd be violating the one who came to die and save me. Jesus. I'm no better than the thieves if I murder in my own heart. So I pray and ask God to take my anger, my injustice, my frustrating over adapting to a new area and throw it into the ocean. Take my heart of stone, oh God, and give me a heart of flesh. One that loves and shows mercy to the unlovable. One that forgives easily and extends grace to the offender.

I must tell them when they come home from school. I pray my attitude is honoring and I'm able to lead them into forgiveness of their enemies. Please pray with me and for me, won't you. Thanks.

The boys have made friends too.
Seriously, the police drive up and down the streets a few times a day here.
They are so great with the kids. Always stopping to talk and ask questions about how they're doing in school and sports. The boys love it. If they ask a police officer for a card, they'll get a real live "baseball" card photo of the cop. Cool, huh? I thought so.
Anyway, can't hurt to have the police in the neighborhood. A lot. Often. I feel like I should make them cookies or something. They probably don't have a lot of extra time to stop in at Dunkin Donuts.

It was hard. We've been in their lives and they in ours since 1999. Seemed so strange that they were staying or strange that we were leaving. We had a great last day together - just the four of us. Oh well, and the kiddos, of course. We reminisced and reaffirmed our love for each other and promised to keep in touch until the Lord brought us together again. We love you Mitchells and are so thankful for our sweet friendship.

Thank you, Andrea, for your tireless prayers and love.

Mitch, thank you for your faithfulness and loyalty to your friend. He loves you!

the move - part 5

Okay, picking up where we left off. We arrived in Harrisburg, PA on Friday, October 28, 2011, with a ~~little~~ lot of help from our friends. Thursday evening was the last night we spent in Wake Forest, NC. We stayed at the Mitchell's house. It was so surreal. The Mitchell's moved down south a few weeks before we did in October 2005. We spent Thursday night, October 27, 2005 at their house preparing to settle on our Naxos Drive home the next day. So strange how life here on earth cycles.

I digress. So we fed our weary bodies and attempted to get some sleep before our big exodus to the north in the morning. So hard leaving our sweet little town. But leave we must. We had no trouble along the way, except for the weather report leaked out that snow was predicted in PA for the weekend. WHAT?! You.have.got.to.be.kidding.me, right?! It's October, people. I hate snow. This canNOT be happening.

Well, it did. The next morning flakes fell from the sky right on top of our new yard and new roof, but fortunately, not on any of our stuff. The truck was unloaded, completely, Friday night. Stephanie got to work setting up my kitchen. I'm not really sure what I did. I remember walking around in circles a lot answering questions and probably looking like a scrawny deer in the headlights.

Somehow we slept 6 adults and 7 children in the house that evening, with more family arriving the next day. Saturday, my sister, Lynn, and Shawn's mom, Dinie, arrived to help and scope out our new digs. The more the merrier, right?! It was a lot of work, but we enjoyed all the help and visitors. Thanks so much to all of you who had a hand in unloading and helping us settle in.

Shawn was the only one who had seen our house. Yikes! I got a sick feeling just before we pulled up out front. Sort of like, oh-my-gosh-this-is-really-happening-so-I-wanna-go-back-to-WF-now.

We are back at it again in the world of sports. Basketball season is-a-jumpin. For the first time ever, all three boys are on the same team. Shawn moved Titus up in the rec league. Thank goodness, because he's having the time of his life AND our schedule is so easy to remember. It's definitely different than what we're used to, but the boys are having fun and learning more about the game. Our team name is Shay-White. No fancy jerseys here only cheap low-grade tee shirts. But they don't care! If Shawn were writing this post, he'd give you all the ins and outs of each boy's skill set and so forth. But since it's just me, I'll just tell you that they all look like great! So far we are 2-2 in the season. Here's some pics of the action. (Warning: We've played 4 games since the start of this post. Many, many pictures shown below.)

In addition to rec ball, Elijah and Titus will begin an 8 week long skills training program this Saturday, with Advanced Hoops. They are looking forward to sharpening their skills on the court.

In the meantime, Shawn has gotten involved in a mentorship/basketball program with a man by the name of Gerald Jarmon. It's called the Three Star Program and Mr. Jarmon is the president. The Three Star Program's mission statement and goals are the following:

Our Mission:
The Three Star Foundation, Inc. challenges area youth to achieve their fullest potential as individuals and community
members by providing opportunities for intellectual, physical and spiritual development.
Strategic Goals:
1) To enhance academic achievement, retention and life-long learning through our structured educational programs.
2) To promote physical fitness, wellness and self-discipline through out recreational and athletic programs.
3) To facilitate the development of positive interpersonal relationships through our faith-based principles.

Shawn is honored to have an opportunity to work with such a great program and he's looking forward to picking his team soon and getting to know the players on a personal level. Joseph attends school with Gerald's son, Gerald. Coming up soon, Joseph will have an opportunity to shoot around in hope of trying out for an AAU team with young Gerald. Will keep you posted on that.

The other week, Shawn took Joseph to his Three Star meeting because they were featuring a Harlem Globetrotter. Here is a copy of the article from our local paper. Look carefully at who made it into the picture!

Chris Franklin twirled the red, white and blue basketball on his fingertip.
“Round and round the ball goes and where it stops, no one knows — not even me,” said Franklin, also known as “Handles,” a player for the Harlem Globetrotters since 2007.

On Dec. 19, the Susquehanna Township native appeared at Rowland Middle School, Harrisburg, for the weekly meeting of the Three Star Foundation, a faith-based mentoring program that attracts city youths in grades nine through 12 with the promise of playing basketball.

Franklin played on the Harrisburg Horizon around 2000 with Three Star’s founder and president, Gerald Jarmon, and went to Susquehanna Township High School with one of the coaches. His family still lives in the area, and he recently bought a house in the city, he said.
Franklin’s visit with the students of Three Star Foundation is part of reinvesting in the city, he said before he spoke to the students.
“A lot of us need to come back and show them that their dreams are attainable,” he said. “What I’m doing right now is what I’ve always wanted to do since I was 6 years old.”
Once he was introduced to the group of about 35 teen boys sitting in Rowland’s cafeteria, Franklin didn’t take long before putting the basketball through a “brief demonstration of some of the things I do as I travel around the world.”
“I take that thing and spin it,” he said as he handled the ball — hence, the nickname — in almost freakish fashion around his arms and legs. “I go up. I go under.”
Franklin walked on his knees and pivoted on the floor from his hip, all while dribbling the ball.
He ended with the basketball planted firmly on the back of his neck as he took a bow. He told the students more about his career, reminding them of his Nike commercials, reality-TV appearances, and designation as player of the game for the NBA all-star celebrity game on ESPN.
“Oh, yeah, I seen that,” said a student in the front row.
Franklin recruited a group of volunteers to try to catch the ball from him, employing all the tricks in his arsenal to make each one drop out until a winner, the youngest boy of the group, emerged.
Franklin reminded the students to stay in school and listen to their mentors.
“You’re at a critical time of life,” he said. “Your schooling is very important. Stay in school. Get your education.”
Franklin’s message aligned with the message behind the Three Star Foundation, mentor Gregory Williams said. The program, started in 2005, helps usher boys into manhood, he said.
Anyone who fights, which is rare, is out of the program, he said. Tutors help students keep up their grades, and a pastor provides spiritual guidance.
“We see a lot of growth in those who complete the program,” Williams said. “If you’re here day one, we need you here in April when this program is over. Real men finish what they start.”
The students welcome the program’s structure, Williams said.
“They have role models, people that can model where they need to be and what they need to do and how they need to make decisions,” he said.
Micah Clark, a senior at Harrisburg High School, has attended Three Star for three years. He said the program has taught him to value education. He plans to attend Central Penn College and hopes to own a restaurant or sports bar someday. The basketball games teach about fair play, he said.
“You battle on the court, but you’re still cool after the game,” he said. He tells younger kids to “play hard, and it’s just a game. You’ve still got more to play.”
James Braxton, a cyberschool senior who has attended Three Star for four years, said that the program’s most important part is the “real-world” skills and standards that the mentors set.
“People don’t expect much from African-Americans except gang banging, going out in the streets, drugs, a lot going to jail, dropouts,” Braxton said. “They expect a lot of that, so in order for us to prove them wrong, we’ve got to set our goals to be successful in the future.”
The program’s basketball games helps players shed neighborhood rivalries, Braxton said.
“Either we have a beef with them or not, so it changes that, too, because we start to become closer, and out of that, we get understanding,” he said.
Franklin said he was there to give hope of success to city youths.
“All my life they said I couldn’t do it,” he said. “I’m doing it. I tell them that with hard work, getting an education, and doing the right thing, your dreams are attainable.”

Our first Christmas in Harrisburg was wonderful! Yes, we missed all of our NC friends but we managed to eat, laugh and enjoy ourselves immensely at our neighbors, the Gilberts.

Jen was kind enough to invite us and so we quickly took her up on the offer. Their family both immediate and extended, made us feel quite welcome. We are so thankful to have "landed" next door to such great people. God's so good, ain't He?

Our boys were so patient as we instituted new traditions in a new land. We did NOT open gifts the second their eyeballs sprang open. We ate a leisurely breakfast, chit-chatted and then, finally, we opened our gifts to one another. It was a great morning with our little family unit.

Later on we headed next door for a great meal and fun with new peeps! We ended our evening with our core bible study crew, minus Dan, for a showing of The Nativity Story. It was a Merry Christmas indeed. We are so thankful that in the midst of our homesickness, we know that our God loved us enough to send His Son to rescue us from sin and death. I marvel at how willingly Jesus left all glory and wonder of heaven, for me. And, I have the nerve to complain of homesickness...sheesh.

Nope. It ain't gonna be a post about pics of the new Shay home or anything else about us, for that matter. This is a post about two Christ followers who obeyed. They don't want any praise, so I will refrain from doing so. But I will say, "Bob and Cayte, from the depth of my birth mother's heart, THANK You. Thank you for saying yes and rescuing a precious orphan from Hong Kong." Your obedience has been rejoiced over in heaven. To my little niece, Sadie Bella, "You are blessed indeed. You have been given a forever home with your crazy, funny, loud, sacrificial, god-fearing, loving family! But you have now been given an opportunity to come to know your Heavenly Father. Today the Hirschberg clan went to court to finalize her adoption. She is theirs and they are hers. Forever. Period. Here's the proof. Picture with the Judge and family. *Smiles*

So the day we'd been dreading came. I know that sounds just awful, but it was not fun saying goodbye to loved ones although we knew this was God's plan for our family and trusted Him.

When I say many came out to help, I mean MANY came out to help. Thank you one and all for your service to us that day. My favorite part of the whole day...if there could even be such a category for that day, was circling around after the truck was packed, holding hands and praying with all of our friends and neighbors. My heart was overflowing with love that God put in our hearts for all of the people and places represented there. When I say that we left our hearts in Wake Forest, I mean it. I'm praying that he will pour out His love to us again and work through us to love and care for the people in Harrisburg, PA. (I know that He will be faithful - He has already begun to do so.)

Dr. Wayne McDill stopped by to encourage and wish us well. He has been instrumental in our church plant venture. We are blessed to have access to his knowledge and experience.

Stan! How on earth will I maintain the boys' Tootsie Pop supply without you?? We love you Stan and you, Wilbur and Other Dog will forever be in our hearts and memories.

None of us were thrilled with the site of the truck in our driveway. It made it so real.

Norberto has helped out on big jobs for Shawn over the past couple of years. A few nights before we moved, he and his girls brought over a delicious spread of Mexican food for dinner. They came by to say goodbye on our last day.

The boys really struggled with all of this (well, honestly, we all did).

Many tears were shed throughout the day.

There were many more friends who stopped by throughout the day to say "see ya laters" and express their love. I didn't capture it all with my camera. There was so much going on and quite frankly, I was an emotional wreck and couldn't focus on the camera. But please know that we are so grateful that you all took time out of your day to come wish us well. We love you.

Courtney and Taylor hung around to the very end. None of us wanting to say that last goodbye. Finally, we had to. So very hard. Roberts Family - your love for us is immeasurable and we always felt it. Right.back.at.ya'll. Fer real. Mwah!

After everyone had gone and the sun had set. Shawn took our little family back into our home one last time. We went through each room and took turns sharing a memory from that room. Then we'd flip off the light switch and shut the door. Over and over again, we repeated this process until we ended in the living room. The we huddled together cried and prayed a prayer of thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for all that He had done in and through our family in that sweet little southern house. As we prayerfully recounted ministry opportunity and opportunity and the fact that two of boys accepted Jesus within those walls, we were overwhelmed with blessing and goodness from above. So hard, but yet so good to hold one another and know that we always have our little family unit. So off we go on another unknown adventure!

We spent the night at the Mitchells and headed out early the next morning to our new homeland of Harrisburg, PA. Walter and Stephanie Strickland drove the church van and Titus. Shawn drove the big rental truck with Elijah riding shotgun. Mitch drove Shawn's work van (hope your tetanus shot was current.) with Joseph, Andrea drove her van with the girlies and then Steph joined later to help out with baby, Macie. I had Mikayla with me and we had a wonderful time!

We stopped for lunch at Five Guys - yum! No traffic or vehicle troubles - praise the Lord! We made great time and pulled up just before 5pm.

The weekend before we moved, aNother Ellis boy got married! Shawn, again, had the distinct privilege and honor of performing the ceremony. The Ellis backyard was transformed almost over night into an enchanted forest. It was a perfect setting for a beautiful event.

Chris Ellis. What more is there to say about a faithful friend who challenges, exhorts, encourages and loves?

The very next day, in that enchanted woods, the Ellis family graciously hosted our Farewell Party. It was a day we'll never forget. One of my all time favorites, for sure. Where all of our worlds collided into one big backyard. Baseball, neighborhood, church and beyond.
We were so honored and humbled by all of you who made a point to come hug our necks and share with us in that special evening. No words will ever express just how much that meant to each of us, so I'm not even going to try and put it down. Just let us say a big ole "thank you" from the bottom of our hearts to all of you. We love each and every one of you so, so very much.

More goodbyes. (If I'm being perfectly honest, these are extremely difficult posts to publish. I hope I make it through them all!)

Goodbye to Miss Julie at the boys' dentist office.

This practice has been so good to our boys. We love all of them there!

The dentist was really busy that morning so we didn't disturb him for a picture.

So hard to find a good pediatrician, let alone a GREAT one. We have been blessed to have had Dr. Hamp for the past 6 years. He was such an encouragement to the boys and always made them feel safe and cared for.

Joseph's bud, Nick. They only went to Kindergarten together, but have stayed friends throughout the years.

Kelley kept the boys for me a couple of times toward the end so I could pack the house. Thanks!!!

Caleb's been coming to church with us for awhile and this would be our last Sunday with him at Faith.

We pray that your faith would continue to grow as you read and study His word, buddy!

Kathy. So many tears shed with her and so much laughter enjoyed and shared as well. Such a great friend. So much so, she feels like family. You and your mother made us feel so special and welcomed in Wallridge.

One by one I had to make trips to neighbor's houses to return all the keys to homes I held. It was an honor to be so trusted. Thank you, friends.

The week of our move, we awoke to this sign on the Kotynski's porch. Moved to tears, I quickly ran and got the boys to show them. They were astonished! We love Wallridge and all that it represents to us.

This was a common site for the Roberts, right? The boys have always managed to wander down to the Roberts for snacks, fun and/or dinner!

We joined them one evening to watch a Phillies game. True love on their part as they are not fans. Words cannot express what the Roberts have come to mean to us over the years. Danny brought us our first meal in Wallridge. He was one of the first neighbors to welcome us after our big move from PA. Even though we have moved, I still find myself going to the front door to head up to Courtney's to chat. Only to realize, we're in Harrisburg. WaAAAAH!

A rare occasion that the Roberts kids were eating at our house, I figured I'd better snap a photo for evidence!

It was not uncommon to walk outside and see neighbors walking dogs and talking with one another. Such a wonderful sense of community and care for one another.

For sure, over the past couple of months our family has hugged so many more necks than are shown here. Each one of our goodbyes have been precious. So this will have to suffice. I wished I had pictures of each and every one of you out there. sigh.

Goodness gracious! Has it really been over a month since my last post? I am terribly sorry. Well, to say that we've been a tad bit busy, would certainly not be a lie. I'll pick up where we left off, how's that? So that would be with our last week of school.

Saying goodbye to JDE was so difficult. It's a school building that always has open doors and a welcoming feel. We have been beyond blessed with great teachers, staff, friends and parents. Each of the boys' teachers gave them a special goodbye party on separate days to accommodate the mother - me. Wasn't that thoughtful? We love and adore them so much.

Titus's farewell party was on Wednesday, Oct. 19th. He was allowed to choose his favorite party treats. Oreos, pretzels, Popsicles, and Capri Suns were on the menu. Mrs. Albin had each of the students write a letter to Titus. He was delighted beyond words reading them over and over with his classmates by his side. Titus absolutely loves correspondence so this really tickled him.

At this point, I teared up and couldn't stop the river of tears from flowing.
Thankfully, Beth (my neighbor) had been walking up to say "hey". She was sweet enough to give me hug until I gained my composure.

Later that afternoon I headed to JDE one final time for Joseph's party on Friday, Oct. 21st, which just so happened to be their last day of school as they tracked out with the rest of their classmates. Mrs. Barton made him a photo book with pictures that she had Mrs. Hardy take the last week of school. So sweet of her! The room mom, Mrs. VanNess, along with some other moms organized a fall holiday party and incorporated Joseph's goodbye celebration along with it. They had lots of snacks and games. It was a very emotional time for Joseph and me as we've known and grown to love these kids and their families over the past 6 years at JDE. Joseph was given so many special and meaningful gifts from his buds. He will cherish these memories for a long, long time.

By the time I left school that Friday afternoon it was so late, I ended up beating the boys' bus home by minutes. Shawn came out to greet them. The bus rolled up and dropped them off. Poor dears they looked so sad. As the bus turned around to go back up our street each kid had put their windows down and were hollering, "Bye Shays! We'll miss you!!"

I lost it. Shawn held me as I sobbed. Oh my, this is so hard.

Shawn headed up to H'burg for a few days to paint our new house! Oh, and to look into employment as well. He has made contact with a property manager in the area and hopefully, something will materialize.

With the help of our neighbor, Zac, and the boys, the van was packed to the gills with about 87% of our boxes! Not to mention, all his paint equipment and the basketball hoop! It is so nice to not have to stare down and work around all those boxes in the house when I'm still trying to take care of last minute cleaning and packing. Thank you, Shawn Shay.

He pulled out of here on Saturday around 11:30am. By 5am Sunday morning he had the van unloaded and the walls, paneling, and door jams prepped and primed. He is the MAN.

Whew! We are making great progress. Purging and packing left and right, up and down. I worked on the upstairs without let up all last week. Thanks to some great neighbors, I was able to purge-n-pack pretty much without coming up for air or feeding anyone while the boys frolicked about the neighborhood begging for meals from sweet neighbors. T-H-A-N-K-S!

Shawn and the boys worked tirelessly on our yard toys and the garage. Organizing and tossing sports gear. I'm so thankful that they did this, as I wouldn't know where to begin.

Now for the downstairs. I'm almost done packing the living room. Then onto the dining room and kitchen.

At this rate, it looks like we just might be able chillax our last days here in NC and visit with loved ones.

Dates but Not Details

I only have time to give you solid dates, but no time to write details about how we are all doing. Suffice it to say that God is in the midst of all we are doing and feeling. I'm praising Him for that. Yes, we are deeply grieved to leave. We are overwhelmed with all the little petty details of little or great importance that need to be tended to before leaving. However, we are trusting in Him, who is sending us, to go before us and prioritize each of our days. Just like we should live every other day, for that matter...

Settlement on our NC house is scheduled for 10/28. Shawn signed a lease on a rental house in Harrisburg just this week! We are leaving NC on 10/28. (Our lease on PA house begins 10/15.) Shawn will still be traveling to PA for this and that. We are extremely busy, as you can imagine, packing and purging and taking care of the paperwork trails that come from such a move.

When given the opportunity to help in the boys' classrooms, I take advantage whenever possible. It affords me a "boy's" eye view of their classroom, a chance to serve their teacher, and also a peak into their friendships.

Tuesday, I went along with Elijah's class to The Morehead Planetarium. Of course, I had my trusty field trip partner at my side, Anna Beth (Dalton's mom). She rocks.

It was a great trip and I think the kids really enjoyed seeing the stars, moon and sun in the dark room with the dome ceiling. Cool!

Joseph's Party

In keeping with tradition, Joseph requested a football party for his birthday this year. I had pangs of sadness as I planned this party, knowing it would be his last birthday celebrated in NC with all of his buddies. So, I put no limit on the amount of guests. When I looked out at the yard full of boys playing football and having fun, I couldn't help but marvel at the blessing of friendships that the Lord has given Joseph here. When we moved here from PA in October of 2005, he and I cried and cried at the thought of leaving our little school, Open Door Christian Academy. We couldn't imagine making friends as special as those we had at that school. Teachers too...oh, how I cried leaving his sweet teachers there. But never in a thousand years did I imagine what joy we would find here at Jones Dairy Elementary. God has blessed us abundantly, in ways that are immeasurable. Joseph's list of friends extends well beyond those at school. It knows no bounds. There were boys there from church, school and sports. As we both shed tears from time to time thinking about saying goodbye to these precious ones, I remind him that the Lord will be faithful to add to his precious collection of friends, but bringing new ones into his life in PA.

Contract and gRoWing

Well, it's official. We have a contract on the house. It's been a long, long process. But I'm realizing that's because we measure it according to our time table, not the Lord's. I wish I had the energy and time to pen all the changes and growth and struggles we, as a family, have faced in this church plant process. Growing and following Jesus is surely no easy task. However, to be considered worthy of such pruning and cutting by our precious Lord is an honor. Oh and speaking of pruning - oh man! I've always known that I'm a selfish girl, but I have been quite disgusted and appalled at the utter filth and stench of my own heart. It's true what the prophet, Jeremiah says, "The heart is desperately (deceitfully) wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind," 17:9-10b

gulp.

He has certainly been exposing the wickedness of my sinful and rebellious heart, as I've cried out to Him to change me, mold me and make me more like Him. He has been faithful to hear and answer those prayers. In the book of Ezekiel the Lord says, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them."

Although I've fought and resisted, kicked and screamed, moaned and groaned throughout this process, I can stop and look back to where I was two years ago and see growth. And, for that I'm humbled and extremely grateful to be loved by such a caring and patient God. Albeit, I still have a ways to go and I am quite certain that I will not see the finished product until I'm in glory bowing at my Savior's feet, I'm content in the fact that I am, indeed, growing. I'm trusting that He will be faithful to complete the work that He began in me should Jesus continue to tarry.

So each day I begin with asking Him to show me the way in which I should walk. Giving Him all my emotions and feelings in the process. Asking Him to heal the hurt and pain of separating from those people and things here in NC that I've grown to love so deeply. Begging Him for a heart that breaks for what breaks His. Reciting His promises from His Word back to Him, believing that every word is true and good. There are some days, well, honestly, most every day of late, I have to ask Him to do this hourly. In fact, I've come to silently sing the old hymn "I Need Thee Every Hour".

When we began this journey in March of 2010, we never dreamed it would take so long to get to PA. At times, I'll be perfectly honest, I had hoped it would just all go away. The whole idea. But it hasn't. God continues to faithfully lead us to plant a church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I realize that He is patiently working on each of us individually and collectively as a family. He is in the process. He wants us to seek Him throughout the process. To know more of Him. To become more like Him. I must trust Him with my feelings, my emotions, my fears. In addition, I must trust Him with my boys and all that they are feeling and experiencing in this process. He. loves. them. more. than. I. ever. could.
I take such comfort in knowing that and believing that His plan for them is important to Him
and He will be in their transition as well.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Shawn throughout this whole journey. He has been so patient and understanding of me and all my struggles. Calling me out when need be, giving a sympathetic and understanding ear when I'll receive it, but all the while continuing to believe in the call the Lord has placed on his heart and moving forward in that direction even when it's been so very difficult.

With all of that said, here's where we are at thus far.
Please keep in mind there are many, many unknowns and questions we cannot answer at this point. We dare not assume anything except for that we are called to Harrisburg and somehow the Lord will get us there in His perfect timing. I will do my best to answer some of the many questions we receive in an effort to keep you all informed. We are in the inspection stage of the sale of our home at this point. Still negotiating what will and will not be fixed prior to sale. The settlement date has been selected for Friday, October 28th. Shawn continues to search for employment in Harrisburg, which is somewhat tricky to do from here. However, he has and will continue to make trips up north to interview in an attempt to secure employment. Please be praying along these lines as he works out the logistics of travel but yet being here for our family as we prepare to say goodbye to loved ones here.

Also, we still need to find housing in Harrisburg. Again, a tricky task from NC. We are looking online and Shawn also is working diligently to make calls and trips to meet with prospective landlords and view properties in Harrisburg. If you could be praying for the Lord to make it very clear to Shawn and I as we seek His guidance for employment and housing, we would be grateful. Our desire would be to move from NC to Harrisburg without the need for temporary housing here. The sooner we get up there and join the Morrisons, get acclimated to the area and enroll our boys in school, the better.

Please be sensitive to our family as we continue to process feelings and emotions regarding our impending move. Our boys are old enough to feel the sting of the loss of friendships here and all that is familiar. They know why we are going and are excited about the possibility of all things news and the adventure of a journey with Jesus, but they are grieving, in particular, Joseph, who is 11 years old and in the 5th grade. With all the unknowns, twists and turns, and open doors that we have experienced through out this journey, we are a little raw and exposed from all the jostling.

God has kept His hand on us through the turmoil and unknowns. I can look back and see that now. All the way, leading and tenderly guiding us. Recently, we took a vote in our family, with Shawn asking each of us if we were willing to go, willing to serve Him, willing to follow blindly. Everyone, woman and boys, said, "yes". So we continue to wait upon the Lord for His direction, guidance and provision. He has equipped us and we are trusting in Him to continue to show us the way in which we are to walk. He will. He loves. I have to keep reminding myself, this was His idea. He has a plan. He will reveal it a little at a time. He's in control. I can trust in Him. He loves me. He loves Shawn. He loves Joseph, Elijah and Titus too.
He's got us. Whew. I am so thankful because it is all too big for me.

Happy Birthday, Joseph!

Yesterday, September 7th at 1:57pm you officially turned 11 years old.

Well, no sense me trying to figure out where time has gone, I'm just so happy to say I've known and loved you for 11 years. Your dad and I couldn't be more proud of the "man" you are becoming. True dat. Oh, and you're beast at sports.

You got mail! Birthday cards, loaded! I informed Joseph that he had received exactly the amount that he needed to buy his own own iPod. He's been asking us for one for-EVER. Of course, we ~~pretended we didn't hear you~~ redirected you to another topic. You barely let up. On and on. Finally, he stopped begging, which is usually when we wait to make sure we can deliver the goods, pulling it off as if it were our idea in the first place. (We are so very clever. You will never outwit us, Joseph B. Shay.)

Actually, we are quite sure Joseph is now old enough and responsible enough to handle one of your very own. So much thanks out there to the family members who made it all happen! You know who you are.

After a celebratory dinner with the fam (noodles, butter and "sprinkle cheese"),. Shawn took him out to buy OUR present to him. Can you guess?? It's round and it bounces.

summertime

We have enjoyed the last days of track out and summertime at our favorite place on earth, besides the ball field and the beach - the PooL!

This track out seemed particularly looooong. We started a wee bit early with a quick trip to h'burg to see the Morrisons and then on to Philly to attend VBS with the cousins and then to D-town to enjoy my side of the family and hit the beach and then a pit stop in Maryland before heading home to visit the Earles.

School starts back on Monday, I hope we are all ready. I'm not sure if we are prepared to handle homework and schedules again so soon.

As I grapple with the reality of our upcoming move (and, NO, I do not know when yet) I have been relying on my faith that depends upon the character of God. While I cannot will myself to have joy in my circumstances, I can choose to focus on Him. Who HE is. What HE'S done for me. And, what HE will continue to do in my life.

"But as soon as I set my hopes and comforts upon things and people I'll lose something out of my heart. It dare not be things and God, it dare not be people and God; it must be God and nothing else. Then whatever else God gives us, we can hold at arm's length and hold it dear for Jesus' sake. And we can love it for His sake, but it is not necessary to our happiness. On our way home, we stopped for a quick visit with the Earles. We were so bummed that Tim and Ellie weren't there, but still thankful for a fun visit! We'll catch 'em all this fall, for sure.

Upon arriving home, we hit the pool hard. We missed it so much during baseball season so we were happy to get our money's worth of our pool passes in the past couple of weeks. It was so nice to have no schedule and no commitments on the calendar. Aahhhhh.

"God's Purpose or Mine?"

We tend to think that if Jesus Christ compels us to do something and we are obedient to Him, He will lead us to great success. We should never have the thought that our dreams of success are God’s purpose for us. In fact, His purpose may be exactly the opposite. We have the idea that God is leading us toward a particular end or a desired goal, but He is not. The question of whether or not we arrive at a particular goal is of little importance, and reaching it becomes merely an episode along the way. What we see as only the process of reaching a particular end, God sees as the goal itself.

What is my vision of God’s purpose for me? Whatever it may be, His purpose is for me to depend on Him and on His power now. If I can stay calm, faithful, and unconfused while in the middle of the turmoil of life, the goal of the purpose of God is being accomplished in me. God is not working toward a particular finish— His purpose is the process itself. What He desires for me is that I see “Him walking on the sea” with no shore, no success, nor goal in sight, but simply having the absolute certainty that everything is all right because I see “Him walking on the sea” (Mark 6:49). It is the process, not the outcome, that is glorifying to God.
God’s training is for now, not later. His purpose is for this very minute, not for sometime in the future. We have nothing to do with what will follow our obedience, and we are wrong to concern ourselves with it. What people call preparation, God sees as the goal itself.
God’s purpose is to enable me to see that He can walk on the storms of my life right now. If we have a further goal in mind, we are not paying enough attention to the present time. However, if we realize that moment-by-moment obedience is the goal, then each moment as it comes is precious.

A friend shared this particular reading with me this morning. As I wrestle with our impending move to PA, this was so perfect for me to to hear. I need to focus on seeing God in the every day moments of life. Shawn challenged me this morning in this very way. I'm so goal and task oriented that it's been so hard for me in the unknowns of going, not going, when, now or later...
Then, of course, there's the "feelings" to consider in it all. I don't feel it anymore. No joy. No excitement about going. I realize I'm being very transparent here. I promised that I always would do so. I have been struggling with months now intense grief about leaving NC. At times, I thought perhaps it just wasn't going to pan out. I was happy. Happy to stay where I love everything. Happy to not have to make any hard changes. Happy to be comfortable.
But it seems that God is moving mountains and making a way for us to go. I'd rather not get into all the details at this point of the hows and so forth. But suffice it to say, Shawn is beginning to look for work in Harrisburg. We have told the boys that our move to Harrisburg may be soon. Please keep them all in your prayers. They each are at different places in life and their ability to process this transition are all so delicate and individual. Our eldest is struggling the most. God is working in my heart of stone to help him through this process. He and I are so much alike. As I remind him of God's truths, I'm able to hear them said aloud and they go deeper into my spirit each time I utter those precious truths. So if you see us out and about, don't be offended if our response isn't what you think or thought it should be. We are walking this out and praying for the Lord to do a mighty work of sanctification in the process.
Pray for our marriage that we would draw closer to Him and consequently to each other in all of the unknowns. I do want to follow Shawn and ultimately, be obedient to the Father. My heart is willing but my flesh is so weak. I don't "see it." But I understand that Shawn is being called and led by the Lord and I have to trust God working in Shawn. I have said my peace and given my word that I will get on board. I don't know what that looks like in the long haul. But I do know that God is not concerned with rewarding my obedience in moving to Harrisburg. He is so much more concerned with the process and how He will use it to make me more like Him.

State Finals - Game 5 vs. Wilkes County American

Our run with All Stars is over. We lost 7-2. The boys played their hearts out and, I believe, gave it their all. You can't ask any more of a team. Both teams fielded well and hit well. Their balls dropped and ours were caught. It's been a fast and furious six weeks with this All Star team. I'm sad it's over. While tiring and exhausting and at times, beyond difficult, I'm grateful for the experience our boys received and the opportunities the Lord gave us in this journey. I will never forget this ride!

In the end, our best just wasn't enough to get around this little team from the mountains. Good game, Wilkes County American!

Pitiful faces, huh? We all cried. So much effort and work put into this team.

I think it was an emotional let down to take 3rd place out of 16 teams.

But, that's nothing to scoff at. Some don't even make to their districts, of which we are CHAMPS.

Oh, how I love this man. This season wasn't always easy. At times, I wanted out. And, at times, I never wanted it to end. I found ways to be a better helper to him. And, I found a few things to be frustrated with him over. But in the end, I believe we learned more about each other and worked together as a team to lead a group of people. I pray that the Lord used us in ways we may never see to share His love, His mercy, His grace. We are well of aware of our short comings and where we failed Him, but we know that it was Him, leading us all the way. He provided this opportunity and gave us the grace to see it to the end.

Shawn, you did the best you could do with all you were given. I believe those boys will remember Coach Shawn and their All Star season for a long time.

You are all CHAMPIONS. Remember that, and if you forget, go look at the trophies that prove it. I pray that if you do not know of the Father's love for you, that one day you will and that you will receive it. I pray that Coach Shawn was able to guide you in the way of truth that one day you will remember something he said and you will understand more about your Creator and desire to know Him more in a personal way. God desires a relationship with each one of you boys. He made you just the way you are. He loves you more than you love baseball or anything else here on earth. He desperately wants you to receive Him and accept the free gift in His Son, Jesus, who came to earth and died in your place to redeem you of your sin. I love each one of you boys (two of you, a tad more) and you will always have a special place in my heart. I wish you all the best. Remember, it's because of Him, we are even alive and able to play!

State Finals - Game 4 vs. West Raleigh

First off, I'd like to thank some of our Rolesville friends for coming out to cheer us on in the searing temperatures above 100. Thank you, Newmans, who have had great impact and influence on us as coach and coach's wife. Without Joyce's help, I wouldn't be the partner to Shawn in coaching a team. Thank you, my sweet friend. Marc has shown Shawn so much just through coaching his own team and having Shawn assist. More than that we are grateful for their friendship, encouragement and love.

The Cunningham family, who we've coached with for years now. They have donned more Phillies red for us and given that they're Yankees fans, that says a lot. Corey assisted Shawn for the past 3-4 years spring and fall ball. Thank you, friends, for your loyalty, support and care for us throughout this season. We appreciate the pep talks more than you'll ever know!

To the Pavones, thank you for enduring the extreme heat several times to come cheer us on. Allison, 8 months pregnant at a 1pm ball game. Yeah, you have satisfied your "payback" to us for watching your team last year. You are a sweet friend and always make me smile. Thank you.

To the many others who have come to watch over the years, friends near and friends far, thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. You have no idea the impact that has made on Shawn and I, but especially our boys. With not having our blood family down here to cheer us on, our adopted NC family has done a remarkable job filling in and loving us and being great friends. We love you all!

I believe Cole pitched that morning and here they are enduring the heat. Again. Little Marc and Coach Marc Newman came to cheer us on as well. Thank you!

JB Shay. You have faithfully served your heart out for this team, keeping the dugout tidy, retrieving bats, cheering them on. Thank you, Joseph, for your tireless service to the boys. You could have hung your head and sulked over not making your All Star team. But instead, you chose to dig deep and let go of yourself and find a way to have joy in your brothers' season. You will receive your reward in heaven, son. Those selfless efforts have pleased the Father. I love you.

I'm not sharing as many game pictures this post, as I really don't feel like going through all the details of the game again, while still licking wounds from our loss. I would like to say that our players gave a great effort. But since this is the Shay blog and I'm the writer, I'd like to just give props to Elijah here. He had some aMAZing plays at 2nd base today. Incredibly amazing! Here are just a few.

Honestly, not much gets by him. He has learned to reach, jump and layout for the ball. We couldn't be more proud of his consistent effort.

Last year he didn't get selected for the All Star team. He was disappointed for sure. But I was always impressed with how well he handled it. Even when we went to the team's championship game and watched, he cheered for the players by names. Celebrated in their victories and felt the pain of their losses as well.

He is a true champion. Because he gets it. He understands that character is more important than making the team. I pray he always remembers "whose" he is and not "what" he is.

Today was a tough loss. When you've been winning, it stings. It takes your breath away. But I told the Lord that morning before the game that we'd glorify Him no matter what. I do. He has found favor on this team at times when I don't even understand why.

Those of you who are close to us know that this has been a journey of struggle, strife and conflict. The Lord is teaching us great things through this adversity. How to love like Him. How to see people through His eyes. How to glorify Him when we want the glory for ourselves. How to lean on Him for wisdom, guidance and self-control. Not always have we been Christlike, that's for sure. But it is because of Him and who He is that we can cling to so much more than baseball. Our hope is in Him and what He did for us on that cross, not in winning championships.

And so as not to leave the T-bone out. Titus, you have captured my heart again this season. You have learned how to get over yourself when you get down. It's hard being the youngest on the team, huh? You had a shining career in rec league this spring at shortstop. At the beginning of this All Star team, daddy sat you down and explained that you wouldn't be playing the same positions you played in rec. He went onto explain that you would be in the outfield and that he would be rotating you out during most games. You were fine with it, just thrilled to be on the team. Thank you for understanding your role on this team and playing with humility. I love your spirit and I love your heart. It broke mine to see you crying after the loss yesterday. But I promise you, through adversity, you will triumph if you place your will into His. The Lord will guide you and shape you as He sees fit. I know you desire to please Him. Sanctification hurts buddy. I'm with ya! (Do you even know what that big words means???)

Rolesville vs. West Raleigh (L) 9-5

We totally had control of this game up until the 4th inning. Multiple factors played into our loss. None of which I feel like talking about at this point. West Raleigh is a machine. They always have been. It would have been so nice to knock 'em out of the winners bracket yesterday. But we didn't, so now we are in it. We have to play the winner of yesterday's game between Rocky Mount and Wilkes County Nat'l, today at 1:30pm. If we win that game, we will go on to the Championship round against West Raleigh immediately following. Since it's a double elimination tourney, we have to beat them twice. So we are looking at 3 games in one hot afternoon to win the state title, which Rolesville has never done. West Raleigh has been state champs more times than I care to count. Last year's Coach Pitch All Stars fought their way through the losers bracket to get to to the championship game and lost in the final. Runner's up. We want it all. It's time for West Raleigh to take a back seat. We beat them at the Smithfield Invitational Tournament to capture the Championship. For some reason, they are unbeatable in the State Championship Tourney. Let's hope we can change that and make history for Rolesville. The only way we'll get it done is if the boys play great defense, get hits and stay focused. Simple, fundamental baseball.

While I'm saddened that this season is coming to an end today and with the outcome still unknown, I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity All Stars has brought us. We have a few new friends, which is always wonderful. But we have a deeper understanding of His perfect love and mercy. We are all broken and in need of a Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for your saving love and grace.

Now, let's play ball!!!!

Whatever happens on that field today, whether we shed tears of joy or tears of sadness, I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to play, love and learn through the Rolesville Rec Program.

State Finals - Game 3 vs. Wendell Blue

We have played Wendell Blue in two tournaments this season and a pre-season scrimmage and beat them every time. This game was a different story, in that they had their best hitter back and they were hungry for a win against us. But not as hungry as our boys. In a neck and neck game with back and forth high scoring, we captured the win in the 5th inning with a final score of 18-12! We are one game away from being in the championship on Sunday. Let's Go ROLESVILLE!!!

Today's game is against West Raleigh, the team that has won States all but one year when Wendell Blue won. We have played them before and beat them. I hope we can have a repeat performance today at 1pm.

State Finals - Game 2 vs. Wilkes County American

Well, we were evenly matched for sure. What a great team Wilkes County American was. But....not great enough to beat the Rolesville All Stars! It was a great game all the way through. They were up by 2 and then we caught up and passed them 4-2. At one point they were up 10-7. Eeeps! Lots of nail biting and pacing going on. Then we tied up in the 6th inning, thanks to Liam's homerun. Extra innings. Nobody scored in the 7th. Then we held them at the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th Tristan got a walk off RBI single ending it at 11-10. Yee haw! Way to Go Rolesville!!

State Finals - Game 1

We played in the searing heat of Smithfield, NC. WhoooEEEee! Was it ever hot on the field. Opening ceremonies were at 4pm and I was drenched in no time. Afterward, we all sat in cars with air conditioning until it was time for the boys to practice before our game at 6pm.

We played a team called Hildebran. I believe they were from 3 hours away and raised support to get themselves to states. I think Shawn said they had booked hotel rooms. They were as sweet as could be, bless their hearts. We beat 'em 16-9.

State Finals Coming Up!

First game is tonight at 6:10pm. We really need to win it. With 16 teams in this tournaments, it would be a heck of an up hill battle if we found ourselves in the losers bracket.

If we win tonight, we'll play at 10am tomorrow (Friday) and then if we win that game, we will play at 6pm Friday night. Perfectly missing this hottest times of the day.

Speaking of...

DISTRICTS - Games 1, 2 and 3

Last Friday night began our Districts run. After a couple invitational tournaments we felt ready to go after the title. First game was against Rocky Mount. The Harris Family was in town and joined the Mitchells in cheering on the boys! Some of them cheered louder than others...eh-hem, I'm not mentioning any names here. Claudia. Everyone of our boys came out strong with great defense and huge hits, We beat them 12-1!

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME against Rocky Mount on a hot Sunday afternoon.
Due to winning both games, we already secured our spot in States. Our District send the top 2 seeded teams. But, of course, we want to go as #1.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's give it up for the Rolesville Allstars who are the Silver Champions of the Top Gun Summer World Series 2011! Wooooooie!

1st game of the final 4 bracket was against the Apex Aeros and we spanked 'em at 16-1.

We played yesterday at 1pm in the HOT baking, searing heat. Boy, summers are unmerciful in the south. The humidity is like a blanket and there's no escaping it.

Elijah definitely had a lot of action at 2nd base today and he was ready each time.

Coach Shawn pitched for our team this tournament.

Good game. One down and one game closer to the Championship (Silver)

Game 2 was against the Fuquay Bengals for the Championship. Game before us was delayed due to extra innings, so we didn't get started until 5:30pm. That's a lot of sitting in shadey heat.

The Bengals had beaten us the day before in an ugly loss 7-6. We were ahead and our defense fell apart and they took the lead for a win. Anyway...we came out fightin' Monday. They gave us a run for our money as these teams were very evenly matched, both playing so well. We tied and went into extra innings. In the 8th inning we finally scored winning the game 9-8. It was a real nail biter! We couldn't be more proud of the Shay boys and all the rest of players. They came up from behind and fought hard giving their full effort. They were rewarded with the Silver Championship. Each player received individual trophies, which Titus broke within 6 seconds of opening the box. He snapped the bat right off. Sigh. Good grief.

Top Gun Day - 2

Well, let's just say, "That didn't pan out." We lost. 7-6 to the Fuquay Bengals. Not much to say except that we need to have good defense and big hits today to stay in the running for the Silver Championship. But on a side note and a big one at that - we are very excited and proud of our Rolesville Thunder (Kid Pitch) Team 10U who are #1 seed and headed for the Gold Championship today!! Go Rolesville!

Despite our painful loss, our boys had a great experience and opportunity today to play in a real live stadium, complete with underground dugouts!! Titus was so thrilled with the amenities, he hollered up to me in the stadium, "Mom! They have water fountains in here!!" It was a beautiful stadium with gorgeous in and out fields with tobacco field backdrop. Boy, the town of Wilson certainly places a tremendous emphasis on kids and recreation. The playground was equally impressive. I forgot to get a picture of the stadium from the outside. I'll take one today. We will not play in here again. Gold Championships will though. But their fields surrounding the stadium where we played on Saturday are beautiful as well.

I mean, honestly, these boys will have to come back down from heaven after playing in this stadium!

Top Gun Tournament - Day 1

We are playing at the Gillette Stadium Complex in Wilson this weekend and it is beautiful. I tell ya, their field grass is nicer than our carpet at home! The boys were so excited about the big time stadium, where we will actually play today. "Mom, you should see! They have real dugouts!!"

Shawn took our boys and some of the others up to the Rocky Mount Opening Day events on Friday. Joseph and I stay home and went to the pool with his buddy, Caleb. It was nice to just chill and get ready for the weekend. I feel as though all I've done is wash uniforms, pack and unpack coolers, download and edit pics, double check sunflower seed supply and shower and sleep for the past few weeks. And I'm loving it!

First game yesterday at 9am against the Carolina Pilots. We came out fighting and ran up the score on them. Then we had some field errors and started to fall apart. They ran on us and got hits. I believe we gave up and unfortunately, experienced our first loss of the season 8-5. But it's all part of learning how to compete against tough teams. We are tough too and we are still in the hunt at Top Gun!

Second game immediately following against the Brunswick Thunder. We showed them by winning 6-2!

Looks like we have a hitter and a fielder on our hands. Way to go Titus, who was 3 for 4! Elijah is an amazing 2nd baseman, catching pop ups and diving for grounders! Love those Shay boys. And, Shawn is doing a fabulous job coaching these boys. And, me, well I am absolutely loving making new baseball momma friends. It's my favorite!

School's Out!

Even if it's only for 11 days, we are heaving big sighs of relief. Not that we don't LOVE school, because we do. But it's so nice not to have the schedule!! We still have a pretty grueling baseball schedule, however, it's better to have just one schedule that doesn't involve packing lunches or homework (ugh).

Titus' class celebrated the 2nd to last day (which was Wednesday) with water activities - kind of like a small scale Wet Field Day.

Then they had a pizza lunch and wrapped up the day with a movie, "A Bug's Life".

Smithfield Champions!!

Wow! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. But let me just say this, each boy showed up last night! We were up 5-0 in the 1st inning and although W. Raleigh attempted to catch up they never took the lead. Final score 7-5! To the best of our knowledge this is the first time Rolesville has won the Championship at Smithfield. Way to go boys! (Personally, I'm in love with one of the coaches. He's da bomb!)

Yesterday, we faced a strong Wendell team who has improved from the time we scrimmaged them. They had us on the ropes for 2-3 innings. We were down 4-2 going into the 3rd and then we cranked up the offense and tightened up the defense to pull out a victory 11-5!

Our boys have been so fortunate as to always have some of our friends at our games. Today, was no exception. The Mitchells came out to endure the heat and cheer us on. And, the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ellis along with brother, Brian too! Thanks guys. The boys appreciate that so much.

Tonight we face West Raleigh Red, who always seems to make an appearance in the Championship Games. Which just makes us all the more excited to take down the best!

Smithfield Tournament: Game 2

We played Four Oaks this morning at 10:00am and were finished our game by 10:37am with a win 4-1!

I have never witnessed a faster game of six innings in my life. The umps were shaking their heads in disbelief.

Honestly, it took us longer to drive there than to play.

Smithfield Tournament: Game 1

Rolesville cleaned up in Smithfield last night, folks!! Yes, they did. U8 (us), U10 (Marc's team) and U12 all came home with a first win of the tourney - whoop whoop!
For most of our boys who've never played in a tournament like this, it was good to get the first night jitters out of the way. We played Cleveland and beat them 12-8. The boys played real well and we couldn't be more proud. It's a good little team. Our next game is Saturday at 10am. We are looking forward to another win for Rolesville.

Our All Stars Team has already played two scrimmages and won both! Last Friday night, we scrimmaged the Youngsville All Stars, who just so happens to be Logan Morrison's team - yay! Of course, I cheered for him when he was up to bat. That's just what us moms do, route for the kids you love regardless of their team.

Monday night we scrimmaged Wendell, who supposedly, is one of our fiercest competitors.

father's day reflections

For some of us, father's day is a painful reminder of what we do not have here on earth. A father. A I awoke, my thoughts immediately went to Shawn and I who buried our dads years ago. While the agony of the loss is not as fierce now, it still leaves a dull pain in the heart to think of all they have not experienced in our boys and our lives. But oh, the joys of heaven and to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior! I know they wouldn't trade that for a day here on earth. But still we grieve. Then I thought of all my friends who've recently lost their fathers. Amanda, James, the Loux family...and the list goes on and on. I lifted each up to the Lord asking Him to show them His precious and unfailing love. Below is an excerpt from Renee Loux's blog on the hope they have despite losing their precious, Derek, a true champion of the fatherless.

Uh-oh…it’s that time of the year again, when me and my kids have to gulp hard and look the other way as we pass the card racks. “Happy Father’s Day to the best Daddy in the world,” There’s no one like my Dad!” ”Dad, you’re the greatest!” ”For my husband on Father’s Day!” The aisles were once again filled with mom’s and their kids, scurrying about to find just the right card and gift to celebrate their hero.

I looked at my children and hurt so much for their loss…for mine too. One of my daughters confessed that she struggles with jealousy now when she sees a family walking together with their daddy. She said, “Mommy, Daddy was always here. We could always count on him. Even my friends whose daddy’s weren’t there could count on him. Now, I’m one of those kids without a daddy and I hate it!” I scooped her up in my arms and held her while hot tears poured down her face.

It breaks my heart to see how my children grieve. I wish I could take all their pain away. I wish I could kiss their heart boo boos and make things better… but it doesn’t work that way with grief like this. I can hold my children, love them, encourage them, pray for them, but reality just screams….DADDY IS GONE! HE’S GONE! continued here.

Not today, that's for sure!

After church we grabbed lunch as a family. Then headed to Dick's Sporting Goods for baseballs and new ball pants. Totally NOT my favorite place to shop, but it does something magical to the boys. Sheer giddiness, I tell you. They had a great old time and I, well, I survived.

We stopped at Kohl's to get Shawn new sunglasses and right in the

parking lot next to Kohl's was a really cool classic car show. Fun!

I tried to impress them with all my useless motor head knowledge by guessing the make, year and model.

Let's buy her and get her home! In my opinion, it would make the perfect family car.

The boys out voted me 4-1 and thought this one would be a better choice.

Then we stopped by Flaherty field to watch Coach Marc play in a men's league.

Those of you who have been following along for a couple of years, might remember spring of '09 when Joseph made Coach Pitch All-Star team. He was overjoyed! Simply a dream come true. Well, looks like we have some more All-Stars in our home for the spring of '11. Shawn has been voted head coach for the Rolesville All-Stars Coach Pitch 2011 Team. What an honor and privilege for him. Add to that, BOTH Elijah and Titus made the team this year - woot hoot!! Here's how it all went down.

Shawn came home from work and I told them to go outside because daddy had something to tell them.

SHAWN: "Well, you know, all good things must come to an end, boys."

BOYS: "What's that mean, Dad? You didn't get coach?"

SHAWN: "Like I said, all good things much come to an end. So our recreation season has ended ..."

SHAWN: "And, now our ALL-STARS season has begun!!!!"

BOYS: "You mean, you got coach?"

SHAWN: "Yes! And, both of you made the team!!!"

And the crowd goes wild!!!

and high-fiving all around.

Ladies and gentlemen, here they are -

Elijah and Titus Shay, true All-Stars. In my humble opinion anyways.

All year, they have worked so hard on their fielding and hitting. They should be very proud of their efforts.

Just last week, their rec team finished in first place with a 9-1 record!

I pray that we are able to bring the Lord glory through our All-Stars team this year.

Each year it's truly a blessing to get to know each family and player.
We are excited that our year has been extended a few more weeks!

Baptism

On Easter Sunday, Shawn had the privilege of baptizing our first born son, Joseph. We were thrilled when Mom and Cindy (Shawn's mom and "aunt") decided to come down for the weekend to witness this precious event. We have been talking to Joseph about getting baptized for quite some time now. He's has always been tentative about it and, therefore, we've never pushed. We figured that he'd let us know when he was ready. After seeing many of his older friends get baptized he began to initiate more discussions with us about baptism. We are so thankful that Shawn was able to be the one to baptize him when he was finally ready. Now, ever since Joseph took the "plunge", Elijah and Titus have been discussing their future baptisms - the who, what, where and when of it all!

I don't believe words will adequately describe the joy and tenderness of the moment. So I will just allow the video and pictures to tell their stories.
